Allen Onyema, CEO of Air Peace Airlines, has fulfilled his N20 million cash reward promise to the Super Eagles for emerging victorious over Cape Verde in their second World Cup Qualifier game on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles, who flew to and from Cape Verde in one of Air Peace’s brand new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft, received the cheque upon arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Vanguard is reporting.
They were cheered and applauded upon their arrival back to the country.
In fulfillment of his promise, the CEO of Air Peace and his team waited for the Eagles at the airport, where the players and staff were welcomed with a handshake.
Onyema addressed the team before presenting a cheque of 20 million Naira which was received by Super Eagles captain on behalf of the team
Onyema charged the players to also emerge victorious in their future world cup qualifying games, urging them to continue uniting Nigerians with their on-pitch exploits.
He expressed delight that the Eagles did not disappoint the nation, adding that “we believe in your capabilities and have faith in you.”
Onyema had encouraged the players before they departed for Cape Verde a couple of days ago, to use their football strides to unite Nigerians, emphasizing the unifying power of sports, while also promising them cash rewards.
The moment was very emotional because the players, coach, and members of Peace Airlines were all happy as they hugged after the presentation of the cheque.
When interviewed, the team captain, Ahmed Musa, who said he enjoyed flying the ultra modern E195-E2 aircraft, thanked Onyema for his kind gestures towards the team and stressed that Onyema’s unity speech really inspired the players to do more and make the nation proud.
Air Peace is the official airline sponsor of the Nigerian Super Eagles.
