Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo state on Friday administered the oath of office to 32 newly appointed permanent secretaries, charging them to strengthen the state’s public service and improve the implementation of government programmes.
The swearing-in ceremony was held in Akure, where the governor urged the officials to prioritise efficiency and ensure that government policies are translated into meaningful outcomes for residents of the state.
Aiyedatiwa explained that the appointments were part of ongoing efforts by his administration to strengthen the bureaucracy and improve the overall performance of the state’s public service.
He noted that the exercise was the third batch of permanent secretary appointments since he assumed office, describing the civil service as a crucial pillar of governance and policy implementation.
“Political leadership may change, but the public service remains the engine room of governance.
“I am aware that many of you have acted in the capacity of accounting officers for considerable periods without commensurate remuneration, yet you continued to give your best.
“Your appointment is, therefore, a formal recognition of your stewardship and dedication to duty. Be reminded that your new positions come with enormous responsibilities.
“Work towards advancing our developmental blueprint and ensure that government policies translate into tangible benefits for the people.
“This government has recruited over 4,000 personnel into key sectors such as teaching, health, legal, agriculture, administration, culture and taxation to strengthen the workforce,” he said.
The governor stressed that the newly appointed permanent secretaries must demonstrate professionalism and accountability in the discharge of their duties, adding that the effectiveness of the civil service is vital to the success of government initiatives.
Earlier, the head of service in Ondo state, Bayo Philip, advised the appointees to approach their responsibilities with dedication and integrity.
He said their selection followed a rigorous process and urged them to justify the confidence placed in them by maintaining high standards in public service.
“You have been chosen from several qualified officers. Prove the system right in selecting you.
“Work with the consciousness that the public service matters and that your diligent service matters,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in officials, one of the permanent secretaries, Lanre Akarakiri, expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve in the new capacity.
He assured that the appointees would remain committed to civil service rules and contribute to the development of the state.
