Akwa Ibom state governor, Umo Eno, has ordered the dissolution of all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions across the state.
The announcement was made on Thursday, October 2, in Uyo by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Enobong Uwah.
According to Uwah, the governor exercised the authority conferred on him under section 6 of the statutory boards (Special provisions) law, 2023.
He added that the directive takes effect immediately..
“The governor wishes members of the dissolved boards and commissions well in their future endeavours,” Uwah said.
“The governor commends them for the roles they have played towards achieving the promises contained in the ARISE agenda.”
The SSG directed the former heads of the dissolved agencies to hand over all government assets in their possession to the most senior officers within their respective establishments.
Speaking at a media briefing to commemorate the state’s 37th anniversary in 2024, governor Eno signaled that the dissolution of the state executive council, including both statutory and non-statutory boards, was imminent.
He noted that the decision would not come as a surprise to the commissioners, acknowledging their commitment and sacrifices toward the state’s progress.
The governor further explained that he was only “waiting for the right time” to convene a valedictory session to formally commend the commissioners and board members for their contributions to the state’s development.
