All pupils taken from St. Mary’s Catholic Private Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, have regained their freedom after weeks in captivity.
Presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare disclosed the development on Sunday via his official X account.
“Another 130 abducted Niger state pupils released, none left in captivity,” Dare said in the post on X.
The release of the last group of 130 schoolchildren on Sunday brought the total number of freed children to approximately 265, closing a painful chapter that lasted for about a month.
The incident dates back to the early hours of November 21, when armed attackers stormed the boarding school and abducted 303 schoolchildren along with 12 teachers, marking one of the most significant mass school kidnappings recorded in the country in recent times.
Soon after the attack, 50 students managed to escape without assistance. A further 100 were set free on December 8 as security forces intensified operations across the area.
With the rescue of the remaining 130 schoolchildren , families have expressed deep relief, while security agencies involved in the operation have described the outcome as a major success in the ongoing fight against mass abductions.
