Ekene Adams, a member of the House of Representatives for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State and the Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, has passed away.
It was gathered that Adams died early Tuesday morning of July 16, though the cause of death remains unknown at this time.
Various sports groups across the country have begun mourning his loss.
“My good friend and one of our frontline members of the NPFL Club Owners Association, Chairman House Committee on Sports, Hon Ekene Abubakar Adams is Dead,” Former secretary of the club owners association, Alloy Chukwuemeka wrote.
“May God console his family and friends and may his soul rest in peace.”
A former football player, Adams served as the general manager for Nigeria Premier Football League teams Remo Stars and Kada City before winning a seat in the House of Representatives during the 2023 general elections.
His background in sports led to his appointment as the House Committee on Sports chairman, despite being a newcomer to the green chamber.
Adams’ death is coming six days after a member of the House of Representatives for Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Prince Olaide Akinremi died.
Akin Akinwale, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, announced Akinremi’s death on social media on the morning of Wednesday, July 10.
As a result, the House of Representatives adjourned plenary for that day. The lawmakers convened at the lower legislative chamber but adjourned sitting due to their colleague’s death.
Before his passing, Akinremi served as the chairman of the House Committee on Science Research Institutes.
