Troops of the six brigade Nigerian army have arrested a gun-runner, recovering a rifle and ammunition rounds during a raid in Shagada village, Namnai ward, Gassol local government area of Taraba state.
The raid conducted on 12 November 2025 is part of Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA under the wider Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) initiative targeting criminal elements and illegal arms in the region.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the sixth brigade spokesperson, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, said the gun-runner is currently in custody pending investigation.
“Acting on credible intelligence, on 12 November 2025, troops conducted a raid operation at Shagada village under Namnai ward in Gassol local government area of Taraba state.
“This led to the arrest of a suspected gun-runner identified as Abdulmudallabi Audu, aged 25, who was found in possession of arms and ammunition.
“Items recovered from the suspect include, one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines 53 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

“The suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in the custody of six brigade headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution,” he said.
Brigadier general Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commander of six brigade Nigerian army, commended the troops for their swift action and dedication to maintaining security in the state.
He further urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, highlighting the critical role of community cooperation in dismantling criminal networks.
