Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have captured a suspected high-profile terrorist during a targeted security operation in Taraba State.
The arrest was disclosed on Friday by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, who confirmed that the operation was carried out successfully based on credible intelligence.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the troops intercepted the suspect at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area on Wednesday, September 18, 2025. The 35-year-old suspect, identified as Saawuan Wuaiyolna, was arrested while riding a motorcycle,” Muhammad said in the statement.
Investigations revealed that Wuaiyolna is from Ateryange community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State and is linked to a gang led by wanted kingpin Akiki Utivi, alias ‘Full Fire’.
According to military intelligence, Wuaiyolna had infiltrated Wukari to gather information on troop movements ahead of planned coordinated attacks on civilians.
The Nigerian Army described the breakthrough as a major setback for the terrorist network and credited Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA with disrupting several criminal groups across the region.
Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their swift action and assured residents of the army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He urged the public to strengthen cooperation with security forces by sharing timely and credible intelligence to further enhance ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
