Troops of the Nigerian army on Sunday, February 15, thwarted a terrorist attack in Shaare community, Ifelodun local government area of Kwara state.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m., when terrorists launched a coordinated attack near the Ifelodun local government secretariat but were repelled by a joint team of the Nigerian army, forest guards, and local vigilantes in a fierce gunfire exchange.
According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation lasted for about an hour before the terrorists were forced to retreat.
Although no lives were lost and no residents were abducted during the Shaare incident, the attack has heightened anxiety across Kwara state.
The development follows a separate raid in Kakafu, Patigi local government area, where four family members were kidnapped in the early hours of Sunday.
Kwara state has witnessed sporadic incidents of terrorist attacks and abductions in recent months, particularly in border and rural communities.
