Authorities arrest imposter corps member in Nasarawa NYSC camp

The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended Ogeh Bethel Chibuife, a fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, for illegally entering the Magaji Dan Yumusa Orientation Camp in Keffi, the state capital.

According to a statement by the state police spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, on Thursday, February 29, the suspect, identified as a student of Public Administration at Ebonyi State University, infiltrated the camp during the 21-day orientation program designated for the 2024 Batch A, Stream 1 corps members.

Nansel stated that the case was reported to the police by an NYSC official on Sunday, which resulted in her apprehension by law enforcement officers when she was discovered during a headcount.

“Investigation revealed that the suspect was a student of Ebonyi State University, Faculty of Management Science and Department of Public Administration.

“She confessed that she was supposed to have graduated in 2022, but had a lot of spillover courses, and in a bid to cover up the lies she had made to her parents, she went to the market and purchased NYSC uniforms/other items meant for corps members and sneaked into the camp to take pictures and send to her parents before nemesis caught up with her,” he said.

Nansel further mentioned that the suspect had been formally charged with criminal trespass, impersonation, and forgery at the Chief Magistrate Court in Keffi.

Commissioner of Police Umar Shehu Nadada issued a stern warning to individuals aspiring to emulate these fraudulent corps members, cautioning them to reconsider their actions as the law enforcement will inevitably apprehend them.

Earlier reports indicated the apprehension of a fake corps member at the Bauchi State orientation camp, alongside the recovery of stolen phones.

The suspect, identified as Muhammed Bello Hassan, allegedly entered the camp at Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state, using a forged call-up letter.

Howevr, two mobile phones and other valuables allegedly stolen from corps members in the camp were recovered from the suspect.
