A top Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) commander, Bako Gorgore is expected to become the new leader of the terrorist sect, Daily Post reports.

Gorgore will assume the role following the elimination of the late Wali (Head) Sani Shuwaram.

Nigerian forces obliterated Shuwaram at a hideout around Kirta Wulgo near Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.

Air Force strikes hit ISWAP camps identified after an Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) mission.

Shuwaram died months after installation in Kurnawa, Lake Chad, a ceremony that reportedly had emissaries from ISIS in attendance.

The 45-year-old had succeeded Malam Bako, who led in an acting capacity until his death.

Bako took over from Abu Musab Al-Barnawi, the late leader and son of Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf.

Shuwaram was the fifth officially recognised head of ISWAP.

Other predecessors were Mamman Nur, Abba-Gana and Abu-Dawud, all deceased.
