Armed bandits attacked Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State late on Saturday, November 29, killing an elderly woman and abducting three residents.
The assault took place while most villagers were asleep, leaving the community shaken and grieving.
The assailants, it was learned, avoided early detection by parking their motorcycles on the outskirts before advancing on foot. During the attack, an elderly woman was shot after pleading with the intruders to spare her son.
“They killed an old woman because she begged them not to go with her son. However, they shot her and went away with the son,” a villager said.
Another resident added that the group proceeded to break into a different home, where they seized two women, one of whom is related to the ward councillor.
Locals identified the abducted young man as Aminu Mahd Ala, who had publicly criticized individuals politicising Kano State’s security problems just hours before the incident.
Yankamaye, situated roughly 5km from Rimaye town in Katsina State, has been subjected to repeated raids, particularly since neighbouring Katsina communities entered a peace accord with bandit groups.
