Bandits in huge numbers have stormed villages in the Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto state, killing twelve people in several towns near the border town of Illela.
The terrorists attacked the villages with sophisticated weapons and enlisted the help of local vigilantes and other members of the community, according to local sources.
Twelve people were killed in seven separate villages in Illela local government, including Gatti, Mullela, Malali, Tarke, Koringo, Tudungudale, and Munwadata, TVC News reports.
Muhammad Nuhu, the information officer for Illela local government, confirmed the attack, saying it had become a daily occurrence in the area.
He stated that twelve people were killed in the current incident, and that several others were injured, and that the terrorists kidnapped an indeterminate number of others.
Solar, a prominent bandit operating in Tureta and Dange/Shuni, has shifted to Illela, according to Mr. Muhammad Nuhu, and has been upsetting the peace of the neighbourhood.
Members of the neighbourhood and local vigilantes, he added, have been mobilizing to fend off the attacks, particularly from the suspected bandits Solar, who specialize in strikes in broad daylight.
An attempt to contact the police to confirm the attack was fruitless as of the time of filing this report, as the spokesman for the state’s Police command promised to contact our correspondent but did not do so before filing this report.
