Bandits numbering about 40 reportedly abducted 23 people in Kawu, Bwari Area Council, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory on Thursday.
Kawu community shares boundaries with Niger and Kaduna states.
The bandits, Councilor representing the area, Abdulmumini Zakari, said stormed the community on Wednesday via the Kuyeri Forest in Kaduna State.
Zakari, who is the deputy speaker in the council explained, “They (the bandits) divided themselves into groups and some went into the palace of the district head, Abdurrahman Ali, where they abducted his son, Lukman, and his wife, whom he married two weeks ago.
“Others attacked the compound of Alhassan Kawu, the Marafa of Kawu, and a former PDP Chairman of Kawu Ward. They abducted him along with his four children.”
The politician further stated that the bandits also went into the compound of the Sarkin Pawan Kawu, Gambo Pawa and abducted him alongside his two wives and some children.
SP Josephine Adeh, Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, confirmed the incident to journalists on Thursday night, noting that the bandits escaped through Kaduna State.
Adeh said, “Some unknown hoodlums stormed Kawu village, a border community with Kagarko LGA in Kaduna State and kidnapped people. The truth is that the miscreants raided that general area and escaped into Kaduna State.”
This incident came barely 24 hours after 85 persons were said to have been abducted by some bandits at Katari along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway near Katari, in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In a related development, 11 persons were kidnapped in the Sagwari Estate Layout, in the Dutse-Alhaji area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, after some bandits, dressed as military men, invaded the community on Sunday.
