Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed 13 people working on their farms in the Anguwan Mai-Giro community, located in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident took place on Wednesday, August 22, as the state’s Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, condemned the attack, saying it is utterly appalling and deeply disturbing to see people perpetrate an act he called barbaric and vicious against fellow humans.
The deputy governor extended his condolences to the bereaved families, local residents, and the entire Shiroro community.
He emphasized that the state government remains committed to restoring peace and security throughout Niger state.
Garba urged security agencies to stay determined and unwavering in their efforts, assuring them of full support in the fight against criminal elements and in no distant time, the war against criminality will be won.
In March, bandits kidnapped more than 20 women during an assault on a market in the Madaka community, located in Rafi LGA of the State.
The increasing attacks on farmers in Nigeria’s northern region have exacerbated the country’s food security crisis.
