The lawmaker, who said this on the floor of the Assembly, while moving a motion, said Jama’are and the surrounding villages had been hit by a very devastating flood that rendered several people homeless. He stressed that five of his constituents also lost their lives when a canoe capsized as a result of heavy rainfall and windstorm in Jama’are town. According to him, the displaced families have relocated to schools, government buildings and neighbouring villages. He called on the House to urge the state government to assuage the condition of the flood victims. He said: “The flood has destroyed over 500 homes and displaced about 100 families who have relocated to schools, government buildings and neighbouring villages. It has also ravaged more than 60,000 hectares of farmlands and destroyed farm produce estimated at hundreds of millions. “The recent flood endangered the lives of humans and animals in addition to other factors like an outbreak of cholera and malaria. “Yola, Dakodako, Gongo, Gilar, Sabongari, Jogayle, Jabbori, Bodinga, Guda communities among others have been disconnected from Jama’are town due to lack of accessible roads.” The lawmaker called on the House Committee on Special Duties to visit and sympathise with the victims and families of those, who lost their lives in the capsized canoe.
