The mother of the Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Kombowei Benson has been kidnapped. 78-year-old Madam Betinah Okunwa Benson was abducted in the early hours of Monday by unknown gunmen who stormed her home in the Korokorosei community of the Southern Ijaw council area which her son represents in the State’s House of Assembly.
The house was stormed by about ten well armed men who came in speed boats. Family sources disclosed that the men announced their arrival by shooting sporadically into the air and within minutes, they took their victim away in one of the two waiting speedboats.
The incident was confirmed by Fidelis Odunna, the spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command as well as the Speaker’s Media Officer, Prieye Kariamo who pleaded that Madam Benson should be released unconditionally.
It will be recalled that early last year, the same treatment was meted out to the mother of Hon Benson’s predecessor.
