Governor Douye Diri, in his opening remarks at the weekly state executive council meeting in Government House, Yenagoa, on Wednesday, disclosed that the government received donations in forms of cash, foodstuff and other materials from individuals and corporate organisations during and after the floods. The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, restated his administration’s commitment to transparency and assured the people that they would not be left in the dark as regards the flood donations. He listed the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Akwa Ibom and Lagos State governments, which donated N100m and N50m respectively, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar (N55m), and his counterpart in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo (N10m) as some of the donors. Meanwhile, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Bayelsa State, Dr. Emmanuel Hart, yesterday, disclosed that Bayelsa State has a total of 1,250,102 registered voters on the register displayed for claims and objections. Speaking at a stakeholders meeting on the procedure for the collection of the permanent voter cards in Yenagoa, Dr. Hart, said PVCs have been sorted and counted by INEC council staff and would be taken to various INEC electoral offices in readiness for collection by the owners. The meeting, which was attended by chairmen of political parties, state directors of National Orientation Agency (NOA), state coordinators of Nigeria Human Rights Commission (NHRC), representatives of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), INEC heads of departments and members of the press, according to the REC, was deliberately scheduled few days to the commencement of collection of PVCs on December 12. Represented by the Administrative Secretary, Mr. Ukok Mbong, Hart said: “The PVCs have been sorted and counted by our staff and will be taken to various INEC offices in readiness for collection by the owners.
