Boko Haram: Over 200 Terrorists Surrender To Nigerian Troops

The Nigerian Army says no fewer than 200 suspected Boko Haram terrorists surrendered to troops that overran them on the Bama-Banki axis of Borno State.

Addressing newsmen in Maiduguri on Friday, Major-General Yushau Abubakar, the Theater Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, the code name for the current war against terrorism, said the insurgents’ action followed the recapturing of the border town from them on Thursday by gallant troops.

“As am talking to you now, they are right inside Banki town,” Abubakar said.

The Commander also disclosed that the military also captured a suspected terrorist who attempted to plant an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the Madinnatu Mosque in Maiduguri on the eve of Sallah.

“Luckily for us, he was caught and he is leading us to those who planted the unfortunate IEDs that killed scores of people last Sunday at Ajilari Cross in Maiduguri,” Abubakar added.

He further explained that the military acted swiftly to apprehend the suspect based on a tip off from vigilant members of the public who alerted them of his suspicious movement around the mosque at about 11pm on Wednesday.

Abubakar, therefore, called on members of the public to always provide the military with useful information on suspected terrorists in order to help the military win the war against insurgency.
