At least 10 people have died and seven are severely injured following a bomb blast that occurred in the Harnai area of the Balochistan province in Pakistan.
Shahzad Zahri, a senior government official, revealed that the incident occured on Friday, February 14.
Zahri noted that an improvised explosive device (IED) struck a vehicle carrying 17 passengers, while it was traveling through the Harnai area of Balochistan province.
He said, “Ten mine workers were killed in an attack in Harnai district.”
Zahri mentioned that the vehicle was transporting coal miners, with the majority of the victims coming from the northwestern Swat Valley and other regions of the country.
Also an anonymous male paramilitary official, mentioned that it could have been a remotely operated device.
He said, “An improvised explosive device was planted at the roadside which exploded when truck carting coal miners reached the site.”
Saleem Tareen, a local government official, stated that the explosion was caused by an IED.
He noted that the victims were en route to a market when the bomb detonated.
The deputy commissioner of the region, Hazrat Wali Agha, stated that 17 miners were in the truck when the blast occurred.
He mentioned that several individuals sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.
A doctor at the hospital who chose to be anonymous, stated that two of the injured were in critical condition.
The Prime Minister (PM), Shehbaz Sharif reiterated sent his condolences to the family members of the victims and he reassured them of his commitment to actively combatting the threat of terrorism in the country.
However no group have claimed responsibility for attack.
