The Borno state police command has rescued one girl and launched a coordinated search for 13 others who were abducted by terrorists in Askira/Uba local government area.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Nahum Kenneth Daso, the 14 girls were abducted on November 22 at around 3:30 p.m. while working on farmland in Mussa district.
The incident was reported by the district head of Huyum, who informed security operatives that Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists had abducted the girls.
“On receipt of the report, combined team of police, military, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and vigilante hunters promptly visited the scene for a rescue operation.
“During the operation, one victim amongst the girls abducted, successfully escaped unharmed and was rescued.
“Search and rescue efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining 13 abducted girls,” the statement read.
The commissioner of police, Naziru Abdulmajid urged residents to remain vigilant and fully cooperate with security agencies.
He also advised farmers and residents to operate within the coverage of security patrols while maintaining caution.
The police assured that further updates would be provided as the operation continues.
