The Borno State Police Command has successfully rescued two boys, aged four and five, who were abducted in the Jan Block area of Jere Local Government Area, following a coordinated response by police operatives acting on early intelligence.
In a statement released on Friday in Maiduguri, the command’s spokesman, ASP Nahun Daso, said the operation was part of ongoing efforts led by the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, to ensure swift investigation and recovery of the missing children.
He stated that later that day, one of the abducted boys was dropped at the entrance of his family home, accompanied by a ransom note demanding ₦10 million for the release of the remaining two boys.
He added that on Friday, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Jere mobilised operatives who laid a strategic ambush at the proposed ransom collection point.
“At about 0300 hours (3am), the abductors, upon suspecting police presence, abandoned the two boys and the decoy ransom and fled.
“Due to poor visibility, attempts to arrest the fleeing suspects were not successful,” he said.
According to Daso, the two boys were recovered unharmed and subsequently reunited with their families.
He noted that the Commissioner of Police has ordered an intensive and discreet investigation aimed at tracking down the suspects, while also directing Tactical Commanders and DPOs to increase patrols, strengthen stop-and-search operations, and maintain high-visibility policing to curb rising violent crimes.
Residents were urged to stay alert and promptly report suspicious movements to nearby police formations.
