    0

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released Senator Godswill Akpabio, the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, after he was arrested by operatives of the commission at about 5.20pm and taken to EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Friday for interrogation.

The Street Journal gathers that Akpabio was interrogated by the operatives of the anti-graft agency following a petition filed by an Abuja-based lawyer, Mr Leo Ekpenyong, over allegations of financial fraud amounting to over N108 billion when he served as Akwa-Ibom State Governor for eight years.

Akpabio, now Senate Minority Leader, had earlier denied the allegations in a statement.

Our correspondent gathered that Akpabio was allowed to go home at about 11pm after being quizzed on the alleged offences by the EFCC.
