There are indications that President Mohammadu Buhari has appointed AIG Mohammed Adamu as the Acting Inspector General of Police.
He replaces Ibrahim Idris, who has attained the statutory retirement of 60 in the force.
Sources said on Monday evening that the appointment will be made official shortly.
Until his appointment, he was the head of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).
The Nasarawa-born police chief has served with the United Nations and INTERPOL.
He was also a former Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Ekiti State.
He is also known within police circles as Mohammed Adamu Lafia, in reference to his place of birth, which is the Nasarawa State capital.
Mohammed was born on November 9, 1961. He enlisted in the police in 1986. He has a bachelors degree in Geography.
He was at one time a director of peacekeeping operations. He is a former Police Commissioner in Enugu and was an AIG in charge of Zone 5.
He is currently a directing staff member at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State.
His elevation might see several Deputy Inspectors-General retired from service.
Idris retires Tuesday on age grounds. He was an AIG when he was appointed.
Adamu’s spent years of his career with Interpol, the international law enforcement outfit that has Nigeria as a prominent member. He was at the headquarters of the agency in Lyon, France, for several years.
Sources familiar with his career described him as a “diligent and unruffled” police officer
