President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, May 23, commissioned the newly built Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) corporate headquarters.
The building, which is referred to as “Customs House”, is located in Maitama, one of the high-brow areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
This development comes after barely 24 hours after the president inaugurated the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, established by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos state.
The deputy comptroller-general of NCS, Adewale Adeniyi, while speaking on Tuesday, said that the Customs spent the sum of N19.6 billion to construct the new headquarters.
Adeniyi noted that the building has a 12-floor tower with five floors on both wings of the tower linking the two wings.
He stated that the construction of the building commenced in 2007 following the need to build a befitting edifice for the NCS.
Adeniyi further noted that the building, sitting on approximately 25,000 square metres, was designed and constructed by indigenous firms.
He added that the height of the building above the ground was approximately 40 metres, making it one of the tallest buildings within the business district of Maitama.
