President Bola Tinubu has lashed out at the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, saying that declaring strike between nine months of an administration is unacceptable.
According to the President, the labour leaders that they are not the only voices of Nigerians.
Tinubu made this statement at the unveiling of the Lagos Red Rail Line project on Thursday, February 29.
Speaking further, Tinubu said labour leaders who want to participate in the Electoral process should wait till 2027.
He said, “I am standing before you clinging to that hope, assuring you that Nigeria will be out of economic problems. We just need to persevere.
“The labour union should understand that no matter how much we cling to our freedom and rights, to call forth strike between nine months of an administration is unacceptable.
“If you want to participate in the electoral process, wait until 2027. If not, maintain peace. You are not the only voice of Nigerians.”
Due to the economic hardship, the NLC had earlier declared a two-day nationwide protest.
Meanwhile, the union suspended the protest for the second day and gave the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to implement all the earlier agreements of October 2, 2023, and other demands presented in its letter during their nationwide protest on Tuesday, February 27.
