At least seven people have died and 31 are severely injured following a car accident that occured in the Kaltungo-Cham Road in Gombe State.
The state’s Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Samson Kaura revealed that the incident occured on Thursday, January 2.
Kaura noted that 31 other individuals were injured to varying extents in the truck crash, which took place around 7:30 a.m.
He explained that the accident was likely caused by a suspected brake failure of the truck, which was transporting soft drinks and 38 people, including 34 men, two women and two children.
Kauru said, “Only a lone crash and we have many casualties; we spent a whole day attending to the situation.
“We advise against using trailers to travel because travellers want to avoid paying the high cost of transportation.
“Please stop joining trailers or heavy-duty vehicles.
“They are not meant to convey humans, but goods.”
He mentioned that the deceased included five men, one woman, and a child, and that their bodies had been placed in the morgue at the General Hospital Kaltungo, Gombe.
Meanwhile, 31 injured individuals were receiving treatment at the hospital.
He warned Nigerians not to travel with trailers to avoid high transportation fares, emphasizing the need to consider the potential costs of road accidents, loss of life, and the true cost of transportation.
Kaura also urged drivers to maintain their vehicles properly in order to prevent accidents.
