Cargo flight operations begin at newly launched airport in Ogun

Cargo flight operations on Tuesday, April 7, officially began at the Gateway International Airport in Ogun state.

This follows the official commissioning of the airport’s cargo terminal by president Bola Tinubu on Saturday, April 4.

The Ogun state government, under governor Dapo Abiodun, partnered with Allied Air and SAHCOL to launch the cargo services.

Expectations include boosting agribusiness exports, reducing post-harvest losses, creating jobs, and positioning the airport as a major logistics hub for Nigeria and West Africa.

More cargo operators including Ethiopian Airlines and another European carrier are expected to begin operations soon, with projections of about 50 cargo flights between April and December 2026.

The development follows the successful launch of passenger flights at the airport on October 7, 2025, further positioning the facility as a key logistics hub in Nigeria’s South-West region.
