A Chinese national, known only as Yespon, is evading authorities after allegedly assaulting one of his father’s employees, Kelvin Godwin, with an electric shocker at a timber factory in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The incident unfolded at a timber forest along the Ijebu-Ode-Owa Express Road last o on Tuesday, March 12, at 5:30 pm.
The trouble started when Godwin, a factory worker, was suspected of stealing flour believed to belong to the culprits’ father.
It was gathered that an altercation erupted between the two over the alleged theft, during which Yespon purportedly deployed an electric shocker on Godwin, rendering him unconscious.
Godwin was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention by fellow factory workers, including the culprits father, who was present at the scene.
According to sources familiar with the incident, the suspect absconded shortly after the incident.
Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the Obalende Divisional Police Headquarters had heightened efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Odutola stated, “An investigation revealed that the factory where the incident occurred is owned by Yespon’s father. Our men are vigorously pursuing the suspect, who allegedly used an electric shocker on Godwin before fleeing the scene.”
She added, “The victim is currently receiving treatment in the hospital, accompanied by the factory owner, while our investigation continues. The case will be transferred to the State CID for further scrutiny.”
This incident echoes a previous occurrence in Kano, where another Chinese national, Frank Geng-Quangrong, was accused of fatally stabbing his Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Sani, in Janbulo quarters, Kumbotso LGA of Kano, in September 2022.
Geng-Quangrong is currently facing trial for culpable homicide before a Kano High Court.
