God who instituted marriage knew that Adam would not have complete happiness and fulfilment without a help meet, hence Eve was formed from Adam to complement and assist him to accomplish his mandate on earth. As believers, we must allow God to take the centre place in our marriage and family. Marriage is a place of fellowship and love. Home, on the other hand, is supposed to be a place of fellowship. But this cannot be possible in the absence of God in any marriage. It was lack of fellowship that gave birth to marriage. Adam needed someone to fellowship with. Although he was successful in life, but his happiness was not complete without Eve. There are many out there who have the world good, but are alone and their good cannot give them satisfaction. Without love and fellowship in a home, there will be no happiness. Marriage is a mystery. This is the reason God must be involved in it. God, being a perfect matchmaker, knows the best life partner that suites every man and woman. Those who choose life partners out of worldly consideration, often regret their choices in marriage. Our choices in marriage oftentimes are in sharp contrast with the will of God. Therefore, we should allow God choose life partners for us because he knows the end from the beginning. There are many mysteries in marriage; the first puzzle is that man must leave his father and mother to cleave with his wife. Again, God formed a woman out of man. These are the reasons believers should allow God to make marriage choices for them. There is no room for divorce in Christian marriage. This informs the reason everyone must be extremely careful in making choices in marriage. The law court has no scriptural permission to dissolve marriage. Pastors, ministers of the gospel, and judges who unilaterally dissolve marriages do that to their own detriment. The Lord frowns at divorce and anyone who endorses it will not go scot-free; not even adultery can end up a marriage union! Unmarried people are not permitted scripturally to assume leadership positions in the church because they do not have the requisite experience to mediate over marital issues. A successful marriage will help a man or woman to handle responsibilities in the house of God. Successful marriage impacts the society positively. It should be noted that marriage is not for sinners because sinners do not have God who is the founder of marriage. Conversely, believers should not marry unbelievers. It is forbidden by God. Young people should be patient in this regard and allow God to lead them. Lets hand over our marriage and home, today, to the Lord and allow Him to lead us. • Further reading: 1 John 1:3; 1 Cor. 3:11; Gen. 2:18-20; 1:26-27; Mt. 19:1-9; Prov. 6:23-29, 32, 33; Romans 7:1-3; 1 Tim. 3:1-5; Titus 1:5-9; 1 John 3:8; John 8:44; 10:10; 2 Cor. 6:14-16; Mark 2:21-22; Mt. 9:16-17; Jer. 29:11; 1 John 1:3.
