The Kano State Fire Service has reported the tragic deaths of a couple in a late-night fire at Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU, located in the Ungogo Local Government Area.
The victims have been identified as 67-year-old Muhammed Uba and his 52-year-old wife, Fatima.
Hassan Muhammad, Director of the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday, December 13, through the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi.
The fire, which occurred at midnight on Thursday, December 12, claimed the lives of the couple.
“We received a distress call at about 01:45 a.m. from one of our staff, Ahmad Abubakar and immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 01:51 am,” he said.
Muhammad explained that the victims’ home was a bungalow measuring approximately 50 by 25 feet, consisting of two rooms, which were consumed by the fire.
He stated that the couple became trapped by thick smoke but were rescued unconscious, with burns sustained on various parts of their bodies.
The bodies of the deceased were later handed over to Muhammad Rayyanu, the ward head of Rangaza in the Ungogo Local Government Area.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation,’’ he added.
Muhammad urged the public to adhere to safety regulations in order to prevent unforeseen incidents.
