An Oyo state high court in Ibadan has barred the former first lady of Oyo state Chief Oluwakemi Alao-Akala from selling, transferring, or otherwise dealing with properties belonging to the late former governor Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, pending the resolution of a substantive legal case.
The injunction followed a motion filed by Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto, who is seeking judicial oversight of the administration of the deceased’s estate under Suit No. 1/443/2024.
Named as defendants are Oluwakemi Alao-Akala and Olamide Alabi, both identified in court records as executors and administrators of the estate.
The court granted the claimant’s request, restraining the defendants, their agents, and anyone acting on their behalf from selling, continuing to sell, or entering joint venture arrangements involving any properties linked to the late governor.
The ruling was issued under the High Court of Oyo State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2022, and the court’s inherent jurisdiction.
Additionally, the court ordered an accelerated hearing to ensure a swift resolution of the dispute.
In court, the claimant said she holds both legal and equitable interests in the estate as the first daughter of the deceased.
She alleged that some properties had already been sold without her consent or knowledge, and that plans were underway to dispose of others or enter joint ventures. She argued that urgent judicial intervention was necessary to protect her entitlements and prevent irreversible harm.
With the interlocutory injunction in place, proceedings will now focus on substantive issues of ownership and administration of the late governor’s assets.
Separately, an application seeking DNA tests among siblings involved in the dispute was also filed. The court adjourned the matter to April 16 for a ruling on that request.
The case has drawn public attention due to the prominence of the late Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala.
