Twelve suspected killers of the Olu of Agodo, Oba Ayinde Odetola have been remanded in prison by a magistrate court sitting in Itori, Ewekoro local government of Ogun State.
Recall that the monarch who visited a land in Agoro to clear the grave of his late brother, was attacked alongside three others, before being burnt to death in his car on January 24.
The suspects allegedly locked him in his red Toyota Sienna SUV 2016 model, where he was set ablaze.
It was alleged that about 50 hoodlums led by one Gbeminiyi Sotade, stormed Agodo to attack the monarch who they accused of being a land grabber.
Some of the suspects were subsequently arrested and paraded by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Zone 2, Onikan Lagos.
The defendants are Abiodun Sanyaolu, Lukman Azeez, Fatai Ramon, Adeniyi Samuel Akinjiyan, Femi Adeniyi, and Monsuru Ramon.
Others are Ojo Olatidebe, Segun Akinjiyan, Adewale Odunayo, Oladele Idowu, Saheed Ramon, and Ajinbosin Gbeminiyi.
The charges read in part, “That the accused did murder one Oba Olajide Ayinde Odetola, the Alagodo of Agodo town, thereby committing an offense contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.
“The accused also did set ablaze the corpse of Oba Olajide Ayinde Odetola together with his Toyota Sienna car with the number plate, APP 55 GF, thereby committing an offense contrary to Section 443 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.”
Ruling on the case Magistrate O. F. Adeduntan ordered that the accused be remanded in Oba correctional facility.
The case was adjourned till June 17, 2022, Punch reports.
