The Cross River State House of Assembly has indefinitely suspended Dickson Agbor, the representative for Obubra I State Constituency, over allegations that he assaulted his wife following claims of infidelity.

The incident, it was gathered, took place on Saturday, February 28, at the Assembly quarters.

The suspension was approved on Thursday after a motion was made by Davies Etta and seconded by Francis Bassey Asuquo.

Speaking during the proceedings, Etta condemned Agbor’s alleged actions, describing them as behaviour unbecoming of a legislator and inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of members of the House.

He stressed the need for decisive action to preserve the Assembly’s integrity and reputation.

The House also resolved to set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the matter and submit its findings for further legislative consideration.

Following the decision, Agbor was escorted out of the chamber by the Sergeant-at-Arms in line with the directive of the House.

Commenting on the development, the Speaker, Elvert Ayambem, affirmed that the Assembly remains committed to maintaining discipline, dignity, and the integrity of the legislature.
