The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has announced a revenue collection of N5.7 trillion as of Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
This announcement was made by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, during the 2024 Comptroller-General of Customs Conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, November 13.
The conference, themed “Nigeria Customs Service: Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose,” brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing customs operations.
Adeniyi highlighted the impressive revenue milestone and voiced confidence in the NCS’s potential to drive even greater economic contributions in the future.
“Our strategic engagements and collaborative approaches have yielded remarkable results across our core statutory responsibilities.
“I am pleased to announce that, as of 12 November 2024 at exactly 13:10 Hrs, the NCS hit its 2024 revenue target of NGN 5.7 trillion, collecting NGN5.79 trillion with more than a month remaining in the fiscal year,” Adeniyi said.
Highlighting the service’s recent efforts in trade facilitation, the Customs Comptroller-General shared that six participants have been selected for the Authorised Economic Operators programme, which recognizes trusted traders to expedite customs processes.
He further noted that, under an advance ruling initiative, 21 requests have been processed, allowing customs to make pre-arrival decisions on import and export cargoes to speed up port operations.
Adeniyi also emphasized that the service’s ongoing time release study has been instrumental in moving toward 24-hour cargo clearance, significantly reducing the amount of time goods spend at the ports.
In addressing fuel smuggling, Adeniyi praised Operation Whirlwind—a collaborative initiative led by the Office of the National Security Adviser and supported by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency, NMDPRA.
This operation has targeted fuel smuggling routes to strengthen border security and protect Nigeria’s economic interests.
