The minister of defence, Christopher Musa, on Wednesday, February 18, applauded the Zamfara state governor, Dauda Lawal, for the procurement of advanced military equipment in the state.

During a formal handover ceremony at the government house in Gusau, Lawal commissioned 25 advanced Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) designed to enhance troop safety in high-risk zones.

The state also unveiled an 80-metre endurance surveillance drone, capable of continuous eight-hour flight and covering a 50-kilometre radius to eliminate operational blind spots.

Lawal noted that the state is transitioning from fragmented responses to a structured security reform under his rescue mission agenda, as the Zamfara state security trust fund has provided a legal and financial framework to support the armed forces consistently.

“These measures were designed to ensure that security intervention is supported by financing discipline, legal clarity, operational coordination, and logistics facilitation.

“As an administration, we spare no expense to ensure the logistical support our security agencies on the ground receive,” he said.

He further disclosed that the state had previously distributed 150 Toyota Hilux vehicles to security agencies, including the Nigeria police force, department of state services, and the Nigeria security and civil defence corp.

In addition, the state provided 20 Toyota Buffaloes, ten of which are armoured, and over 600 specialised motorcycles for rapid response in difficult terrain.

The community protection guards were also equipped with 60 brand-new Toyota Hilux operational vehicles and motorcycles.

Musa described the procurement as a bold demonstration of commitment to public safety, as investment in protective and operational equipment sends a strong signal to criminal elements and highlights the importance of state-level contributions to national security efforts.

He added that safeguarding lives and property transcends political affiliations and differences.
