Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested and paraded 40-year-old Mrs. Blessing Ojewale and eight others, for alleged illegal dealing in petroleum products suspected to be Dual Purpose Kerosine (DPK) concealed in polythene sacks. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Emeka Peters Okwechime, who disclosed this to newsmen while parading them at the weekend in Warri, Delta State, said the feat was in line with efforts to crush and decimate crude oil thieves and pipeline vandals in the country. He explained that Blessing Ojewale engaged in illegal dealing in petroleum products suspected to be DPK concealed in about 30 polythene sacks estimated to be about 1000litres of DPK loaded in a Toyota sienna bus with registration number LSR 832 CZ. According to him, the woman was arrested with the vehicle used in conveying the products on September 12, 2022 at about 1600hrs at Ebendo community along Kwale road, while the driver jumped into the bush upon sighting their men. Okwechime said the Commandant’s Special Tactical Team code named “Operation Show No Mercy to crude oil thieves, pipeline vandals among other crimes and criminalities in the state arrested some suspected crude oil thieves, vandals along the Warri Sapele Road and those illegally dealing in petroleum products suspected to be DPK and Automated Gasoline Oil (AGO). The team, he said, invaded and sealed up the illegal dump site they used illegally in storing the refined petroleum product suspected to be AGO close to the Niger Cat junction in Uvwie Local Council of the state which led to the arrest of one Mr. Aminu Garuba, 32, ‘m’ and Usman Tasiu , 19, ‘m’. Other suspects are: Mr. Salisu Ibrahim, 22, ‘m’, Idris Ilia, 23, ‘m’ and Usman Adam 32, ‘m’. “On the Warri Sapele highway, the team also swoop on black marketers, illegally dealing in petroleum products suspected to be AGO, whereby several drums of illegally refined AGO were destroyed and two suspects arrested. “Further, one Mr Idogor Sunday ,’m’ was arrested with about 27 numbers of 25 litres of Jerry cans of petroleum product suspected to be DPK loaded in a Mitsubishi Space Runner bus with Registration Number CL 374 ABC. “ He was arrested at Kwale Junction in Ogwashi Uku along the Asaba Kwale highway at about 1930hrs on September 12, 2022,” he added. Okwechime stated that while the sting operations will continue and be intensified the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation to face the full weight of the law and to serve as deterrence to would-be criminals.
