Becky Olubukola In a renewed effort to tackle current housing deficit, a real estate developer, BStan Group has announced plans to stage a National House Fair, which would produce one million houses yearly in the next 20 years. The Group Managing Director, Dr. Becky Olubukola, who stated this during a Fair in Abuja, said the company targets housing markets across the six geopolitical regions, namely: Lagos, Akure, Abuja, Ibadan, Abeokuta, Port Harcourt, Asaba and Ghana. Olubukola revealed that the firm is developing over 26,000 housing units, which till date are ongoing projects in states, with emphasis on the South West and estimated to cost over N83 billion. She said the group is spearheading several intervention programmes and outreaches targeted at improving the livelihoods of women, youths, as well as children with the aim to equip them materially and mentally to be relevant in society. She stressed the need to enact gender sensitive policies that will neutralise socio-economic and cultural barriers to enable women participate in the industry and investments that will reduce rural poverty. Also, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, observed that the national house fair is taking a new dimension, as the developer is focusing on how youth can have their own homes. The Royal Father regretted that Nigerian systems are not supporting women, security personnel to key in to housing schemes. In his paper, Brigadier General, Dele Arogundade of National Defence College, advised youths to venture into areas of education, Information Communication and Technology (ICT), as means to contribute meaningfully into nation building. Another speaker, Jane Nechi of Optiva Capital Partners said one of the mediums the federal government can use to achieve economic sustainability and growth is through mass housing development, which focuses on women.
