Feelers from the House of Representative indicate that Yakubu Dogara of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Bauchi State has been elected the new Speaker of the House. He defeated Femi Gabjabiamila of Lagos State by eight votes
Hon. Yakubu Dogara, representing Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa-Balewa Federal constituency of Bauchi State, emerged Speaker of the House of Representatives in a keenly contested battle.
He defeated his closest rival, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila by eight votes, polling 182 votes to Gbajabiamila’s 174 in very close contest Tuesday.
With his victory, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has played a major role in routing the favoured candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in both chambers of the National Assembly.
Senators Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu had earlier on Tuesday emerged Senate President and Deputy Senate President in the Senate.
