The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismantled a child trafficking ring, apprehending a 17-year-old girl along with her accomplice, and rescuing 4-year-old Aisha who had been abducted from Nguru, Yobe State.
The DSS office in Kano disclosed on Tuesday, July 23, that Kano State Hisbah officials had handed over Aisha, the abducted 4-year-old girl, to them.
She had been brought to Kano by the 17-year-old girl (whose identity is withheld) under suspicious circumstances, prompting the intervention.
The DSS stated that upon receiving Aisha and her abductor, they initiated an investigation which led to the identification of a trafficking network operating across neighboring states.
The network was allegedly trafficking children, including Aisha, who were subsequently sold in the southern part of the country.
“We arrested the real kingpin in the abduction of children from around neighboring States to Kano and sold in the Southern Part where it becomes difficult to trace them” DSS stated
According to the DSS, following interrogation, the 17-year-old girl admitted that a man who sells groundnuts near her home introduced her to the abduction of 4-year-old Aisha.
The man assured her that nothing would happen to her if she participated.
The leaders of the child abduction ring confirmed that the kidnapping of Aisha, aged 4, was the third criminal act they had carried out from Nguru.
“Luck ran out of me after I used this lady to get Aisha for me and brought her to Kano where I normally collect the abducted children and pay off the abductors while I move on with my partners”, he confessed.
