Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He was arrested on Monday and taken into custody at the Port Harcourt division of the anti-graft agency.
EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewole, confirmed the detention of the politician on Monday evening.
Okowa, the vice-presidential candidate to Atiku Abubakar on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, has allegedly been accused of using his office as governor to loot and acquire assets up to N1.3 trillion.
Some of the assets included substantial shares in UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Company, among other investments in the oil sector.
The alleged diversion of N1.3 trillion is said to be part of the 13 percent derivation fund earmarked for oil-producing states.
