The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has charged Alhaji Usman Abubakar and his Young Alhaji Foundation in the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The defendants are facing a five-count charge of obtaining money by deception and stealing N950 million. Abubakar, the Foundation, and Dr. Abu Omer Fawzi (at large) conspired to obtain N950,000,000 from Ano Farms Limited in September 2022.
They allegedly collected under the guise that they had the monetary equivalent of the sum in question.
When the charges were read in court on Wednesday, Abubakar pleaded not guilty.
Bilikisu Buhari, prosecuting counsel, asked the court for a trial date so that the prosecution could call witnesses and present relevant documents.

Olanipekun, SAN, counsel for the defendants, pleaded that Abubakar be held in EFCC custody pending the hearing of the bail application.
However, the attempt to make an oral application for bail was dismissed by the court, as the trial judge held that “this court is a court of records”.
Justice Dada postponed hearing the bail application until March 1, 2023, and ordered that the defendant remain with the commission.
