EFCC nabs fake senator for committing €5.7m internet fraud in Abuja

    The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arrested a fake Senator, identified as Ifechukwu Tom Makwe for €5.7million (Five Million, Seven Hundred Thousand euros) internet fraud.

    The suspect was apprehanded at the Guzape area of the FCT, Abuja based  reliable intelligence about his internet  fraud.

    Following his arrest, it was discovered that the suspect, bore different aliases, including Fahad Makwe, Senator Tompolo, Tom Makwe, Dr. Bran, to defraud a Spaniard of Five Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Euros (€5.7million).

    The anti-graft agency said that the suspect had claimed to be a US Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI agent and diplomatic solicitor, while he succeeded in defrauding the foreign nationalusing fake identities.

    EFCC said that the suspect had embarked on his fraudulent activities with the victim since 2013 since their first contact through the social media.

    The EFCC has assured that the suspect will be facing court trial over his fraud-related activities as soon as investigations are concluded over his matter.
