The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, December 16, carried out coordinated raids on the properties of former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, in Abuja and Kebbi state.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his media aide, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami said the operation followed his recent comments on chapter nine of the Justice Ayo Salami judicial commission of inquiry report.
He claimed EFCC operatives arrived at his offices and residences without prior notice and sought documents linked to the disputed section of the report.
Malami described the development as an attempt to intimidate him, adding that it was connected to his demand that EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, step aside from investigations involving him due to conflict of interest.
The chapter nine of the Salami report reportedly contains observations relating to senior EFCC officials, including Olukoyede, who served as secretary to the judicial panel.
Malami warned that any harm to him or members of his team should be viewed within the context of what he described as a pattern of harassment.
He also called for the full disclosure of the Salami report, urging civil society organisations, professional bodies, and rights groups to press for transparency.
The allegation comes as the EFCC continues investigations into Malami over claims of abuse of office, money laundering, and matters linked to recovered Abacha loot.
Malami has repeatedly dismissed the allegations, insisting the probe is politically driven and compromised by conflict of interest.
He maintains that portions of the Salami report he has made public raise serious questions about the EFCC chairman’s continued involvement in cases concerning him.
