Explosion hits oil tapping point in Rivers community, many feared dead

    An explosion at a crude oil tapping point in Rumuekpe community, Emuoha local government area, Rivers state, is believed to have killed many people.

    The explosion has caused great panic and sadness in people’s lives.

    Fyneface Dumnamene, executive director of the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre and an environmentalist, confirmed the incident in a statement obtained on Friday.

     

    According to him, the explosion happened around 2 a.m. on Friday when one of the buses transporting crude oil to another location for artisanal refining activated its ignition system.
    When the state police command was contacted, no one was immediately available for detailed comments.
