A fatal road accident which occurred on Sunday, January 4th, in Plateau state has claimed the lives of five people and left 13 others injured.
The crash, which occurred at Zangzat roundabout in Langtang north local government area of the state at about 3:00 a.m, involved a trailer transporting marketers from Shendam to Jos.
Langtang north local government area chairman, Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Kum Precious Yakubu.
According to the statement, preliminary findings indicated that the accident involved a Plateau state registered vehicle with registration number JJN 383 YZ and was caused by excessive speed and overloading.
Tyem said the local government swiftly responded to the incident by dispatching a team to the crash scene and the hospital to assess the situation, support victims, and identify their immediate needs.
“The incident led to the tragic loss of five lives, while about thirteen persons sustained varying degrees of injuries.
“The injured victims are currently receiving medical attention at the General Hospital, Langtang,” the statement read.
The chairman expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
Tyem warned against reckless driving and disregard for traffic regulations, urging motorists to comply with speed limits and avoid overloading.
He also called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to intensify public sensitization and enforcement of road safety laws across the state.
