The Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD-FCT), has commenced its seven day warning strike.
The NARD has issued a communique, signed by its president, George Ebong, and other executive members, describing the healthcare system in the FCT as a long-standing systemic failure that requires comprehensive and immediate reform.
Ebong emphasized that doctors in the FCT are under immense pressure, often covering multiple departments.
He called on the federal government to urgently address the growing challenges in the health sector, warning that continued neglect could lead to a systemic collapse.
The association also demanded immediate intervention to address issues such as manpower shortages, non functional equipment, poor working conditions, and unpaid staff allowances.
Additionally, NARD raised concerns over unpaid salaries, delayed promotions, and underpayment of promoted staff, urging the government to act swiftly to boost healthcare worker morale and restore service efficiency.
Ebong also advised that frontline health professionals must be included in the decision-making process. To highlight the urgency of their demands, the association gave the FCT administration a one week ultimatum to initiate significant reforms, particularly concerning staffing and welfare.
NARD warned that a one week warning strike would be launched if their demands are not met.
