The Joint Tax Board, JTB, has announced new rates for national driver’s licenses and vehicle number plates, which will come into effect on November 1, 2024. The revised fees are aimed at enhancing the security and quality of these identification documents, aligning them with global standards.
Under the updated pricing, a three-year motor vehicle driver’s license will now cost ₦15,000, while a five-year license will be ₦21,000. Motorcycle and tricycle drivers will see their three-year license priced at ₦7,000, and a five-year license at ₦11,000.
For vehicle number plates, standard private and commercial vehicle plates will now cost ₦30,000. Fancy number plates are set at ₦400,000, and motorcycle plates will cost ₦12,000. Dealer vehicle number plates will be priced at ₦100,000.
Government-issued number plates have also been adjusted, with fancy government vehicle plates now at ₦120,000 and standard plates at ₦80,000. Government motorcycle plates are priced at ₦50,000 for fancy options and ₦20,000 for standard.
The JTB explained that these changes aim to improve security features, facilitating better identification for both drivers and vehicles across Nigeria.
JTB Secretary, Olusegun Adesokan, stressed the importance of public awareness regarding the new rates and urged citizens to familiarize themselves with the changes.
“The secretariat has requested that the FRSC, Federal Road Safety Corps, notify the JTB of its public engagement and sensitization plans. We believe that a robust engagement will ensure a seamless implementation of the revised rates,” Adesokan stated.
