The Federal Government has approved the dismissal of no fewer than 38 senior officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, including an Assistant Commandant General, following findings of serious disciplinary violations.
The action was sanctioned by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board under the Ministry of Interior.
The officers were removed from service over offences ranging from gross misconduct and insubordination to breaches of existing laws and service regulations. According to the NSCDC, the decisions formed part of broader efforts to enforce discipline and uphold professionalism within the corps.
Confirming the development on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, said that disciplinary measures were widely applied across ranks in 2025. He disclosed that 76 senior and junior personnel had various disciplinary measures meted on them to serve as a deterrent to others.
He further explained that, “As directed by the Civil Defence Correctional Fire and Immigration Service Board, disciplinary action have been meted out on some Senior officers as recommended by the NSCDC Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee: about 38 Senior officers including Assistant Commandant General have been dismissed on account of gross misconduct, insubordination and acts unbecoming of a superior officer according to the Public Service Rules.”
Babawale also detailed sanctions imposed on junior personnel, noting: “After the sittings of the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee on about 30 cases involving various degrees of gross misconduct, 20 personnel have been dismissed from the Service, three personnel were demoted by one rank, while seven personnel were issued warning letters as recommended by the NSCDC Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee.”
He added that the Commandant General of the corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, had reiterated the administration’s resolve to reform and strengthen the service through sustained training and retraining of officers. According to him, the leadership made it clear that conduct capable of damaging the image of the NSCDC would not be condoned.
Babawale said the NSCDC leadership also urged officers and men to remain committed to their statutory responsibilities and to carry out their duties with professionalism and integrity.
