The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, on Friday, July 19, fined Meta Platforms $220 million for breaching data privacy laws.
In a statement, the FCCPC highlighted that Meta’s data-sharing practices on Facebook and WhatsApp violated local consumer and data protection regulations.
The commission determined that Meta had denied Nigerian users control over their data, shared data without consent, and abused its market dominance.
