The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has finally taken responsibility for the fatal airstrike on Kwatiri, a rural community in Nasarawa State.
This was made known in a report released by the Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Wednesday, June 7.
HRW, an organization which investigates and reports on human rights abuses globally, said that its investigations confirmed that 39 persons were killed and six others were injured in the airstrike that occurred on January 24, 2023.
Although, the organization said that other interests have come up with higher tolls resulting from the incident.
HRW added that, “Nigerian authorities have provided little or no information ” regarding the airstrike.
HRW lamented what it described as evading “key questions” about all that transpired during the attack, despite the fact that NAF admitted carrying out the raid.
Recall that the police command in Nasarawa state, after the attack, said that 27 herders were killed as a result of the airstrike.
The police, which based its stand on its preliminary investigations, revealed that the herders had gone to Kwatiri, a border community between Benue and Nasarawa states, to pay fines for the release of their cattle seized by the Benue State Livestock Guards, when they were struck in the air raid carried out by the NAF.
